2017 Passover Scholars in Residence Program

Rav Binny is a highly engaging and inspiring educator who has the gift for synthesizing difficult, sophisticated material in a way that inspires both the novice and the scholar and is committed to constructing a model of Judaism that is applicable, cohesive and authentic. His proficiency in applying Jewish concepts to contemporary life in a personal and meaningful manner has made him a sought after speaker and educator around the world. Rav Binny is an IDF Company Commander who came to Israel as a lone soldier in 1982.

Doreet Freedman is VP of Nefesh B’Nefesh and part of the founding team which has revitalized Aliyah and is the outsourced arm of the Israeli government for North American immigration having brought over 50,000 individuals to build new lives in Israel.

Maayan (Freedman) Blum is in her 4th year of Medical School at Ben Gurion University of the Negev and Eliel Blum is completing his studies in Economics and Finance. What makes this couple’s story unique is that they are both IDF Officers and are parents of a beautiful 2 year old son, Amitai.

Yonatan Freedman recently completed his IDF service in Field Intelligence and after participating in a leadership program in Sydney, Australia is currently working for a tour company educating British youth and stationed in Northern Israel.

Adi Freedman is in her second year of National Service working with individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. Her first year was spent working in the pediatric oncology unit at Hadassah hospital as part of the Ministry of Education’s program for children challenged by cancer.

Yair Freedman is currently studying in the Kiryat Shmona Yeshiva in Northern Israel prior to his upcoming IDF draft.

Dr. Jay Mazel
graduated from the SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1992. He works in Annapolis, MD and 1 other location and specializes in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Mazel is affiliated with Anne Arundel Medical Center, George Washington University Hospital and Medstar Washington Hospital Center. He has worked in this specialty for more than 25 years.
He is a renowned speaker and presenter at medical conferences and coordinates multiple CME programs.



Sharon Mazel is a writer, journalist, pregnancy and parenting expert. She writes for the What to Expect book series and website.The What to Expect books have sold more than 34 million copies in the US alone, and are published in over 30 languages.
